Meter's mission and long term ambition

The internet runs the world–data centers, offices, manufacturing facilities, schools, etc, spend billions annually on computer networking to stay productive.

However, these networks are messy and brittle. Traditional networking companies only build one piece of the puzzle—either hardware, software, or operations—but never all three, leading to inefficient silos and slow changes. Network engineers—the lifeblood of the industry—are often left scrambling to fix issues, hand editing configs, guess-and-checking solutions, and worrying how the ever-increasing complexity of the system they manage will break.

Meter has spent the last decade vertically integrating the fragmented computer networking industry across hardware (power, routing, switches, security, wireless), firmware, operating systems, and real-world operations. By owning the full stack, we make it exceptionally easy for any business to have great networking, internet, and Wi-Fi. We believe people who build hardware and software should be the ones responsible for it. Our ambition is to evolve internet infrastructure into a utility.

This role is critical to Meter's success

Meter’s approach has enabled us to build a high-growth business with hundreds of networks deployed, serving everyone from small schools to fortune 500 companies. This traction has given us a rare data advantage and support from Sequoia, Sam Altman, and Microsoft, amongst others. We are now well positioned to do what no one else can: train a model that deeply understands real-world networks, predicts failures before they happen, and fixes problems before engineers even know there’s an issue.

Intelligent networks unlock enormous productivity gains and while technologists are focused on providing leverage to software engineers, network engineering is quietly one of the largest job categories in technology.

With tens of thousands of H100s, a rare data advantage, and an opinionated vision for the future, we’re assembling a small team of talented researchers who want to apply themselves to a critical yet neglected industry. See more at meter.ai

You will have an impact by

  • Testing novel training and evaluation techniques
  • Building data pipelines for training and evaluation
  • Collaborating with firmware and application engineering to bring solutions to production
  • Debugging and optimizing systems
  • Publishing techniques for internal and external audiences

Legal

Meter is navigating demonstrably accelerating growth and looking for someone to lead our legal efforts into our next chapters.

Meter's mission and long term ambition

We are building a vertically integrated networking business - not just designing the individual hardware SKUs, but thinking about the data that will flow across it, software to manage it, and models to train against it. We will wrap this with efficient operations (network design, installation, support, billing), to rethink how networking should be delivered and purchased.

This is an industry without a new entrant in the past decade, with billions of dollars in revenue and hundreds of billions in equity value. We have built the foundation to materially penetrate this market in 2025, and we expect to realize the large opportunity from there.

This role is critical to Meter's success

In the near term, our focus is on streamlining commercial operations - improving our contract structures and processes with our commercial stakeholders (customers and increasingly channel partners). We need to have risk-aligned frameworks that are supplemented by scalable tools.

In the medium term, we want to take the same principles in our approach to people, supply chain, new products, international expansion, data & privacy, IP, litigation, capital and corporate governance.

You will have an impact by

We are looking for someone who will build the processes, systems and team to execute across all these areas, thoughtfully prioritizing investments of time and capital against the highest impact areas. This person will be able to represent Meter with all stakeholders, building upon strong cross functional relationships to deliver a legal foundation that is efficacious for all teams.

If all of this resonates, and you are Kind and Ambitious, we’d love to meet you.
